The founding members of the Food and Agriculture Alliance were the American Farm Bureau Federation, the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, the Environmental Defense Fund and the National Farmers Union. Four other members soon joined: the Food Industry Association, the National Alliance of Forest Owners, the National Association of the State Departments of Agriculture and the Nature Conservancy.
Now, the group has grown to 42 members, with new additions including the American Seed Trade Association, the American Sugar Alliance, the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, the Biotechnology Innovation Organization, the Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau, Ducks Unlimited, the Farm Credit Council, the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, the National Corn Growers Association, the National Cotton Council, the National Milk Producers Federation, the Produce Marketing Association and the USA Rice Federation.
FACA made more than 40 policy recommendations in November, but now is making more detailed proposals.
"We are encouraged that leaders in both the House and Senate are requesting more detailed guidance to achieve FACA's climate goals and recommendations," said American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall in a statement. "It's important that any new climate policies respect the people who will be impacted the most—farmers and ranchers. FACA's 40-plus proposals demonstrate farmers and ranchers must be treated as partners as we work together to build on the impressive advances already achieved toward climate-smart farming."
